I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (MFC 47398) with offices in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco and near the Piedmont district of Oakland. I am presently a PhD candidate in the field of East-West Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies. My work has evolved out of my personal life experiences as well as my education and training. I am a firm believer in the positive, productive and ever-surprising energy that arises within us when we access our own creative natures.
I am a psychotherapist who draws on the wisdom and generative ideas that come from a variety of traditions and methods. My training in Counseling Psychology has a strong Somatic emphasis, which means I am attentive to how a person lives and feels in their body. I believe that a person's life story is not only in the spoken word, but in what is not spoken but deeply felt or sensed within the body, the heart and the soul.
In my work as a psychotherapist I use a client-centered approach that is psychodynamic and relational. I often use somatic interventions that call forth information from the body. I am also trained in Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and Post Induction Therapy created by Pia Melody.
My influences have come from the arts, particularly dance and theatre as a performer and choreographer, my work as a teacher in High School and Middle School, my life abroad in Thailand and India, my longtime 25 year connection with Interplay, my 14 years of experience and education as a Jesuit Scholastic and my 10 years working as a spiritual care counselor with a Hospice Company in the San Francisco Bay Area.
